Revered as the quintessential Cuban cigar, Montecristos have garnered widespread recognition and an unrivaled global following. While rumors abound about their market dominance, Montecristos undoubtedly stand as the leading Cuban cigar brand worldwide.

In 1935, founder Alonso Menendez acquired the Particulares Factory and promptly introduced a new brand: Montecristo. The name found inspiration in the beloved Alexander Dumas novel, "The Count of Monte Cristo," a cherished tale read aloud to the torcedores by a factory-appointed lector. In 1936, Menendez welcomed a new partner forming Menedez y Garcia and acquired the struggling H. Upmann Factory. The following year, Montecristo Cigars secured an exclusive distribution agreement with the esteemed British firm Hunter & Frankau, laying the foundation for their tremendous success.

However, Cuba's political strife in the 1960s plunged the brand into turmoil, leading to its confiscation by the government and the departure of Menendez and Garcia from the country. Eventually, the partners established operations in the Dominican Republic under the Montecristo name, which is currently managed by Altadis S.A.

Today, Montecristo continues to craft some of the world's finest cigars, including iconic offerings like the No.2 among many others. Modern Montecristo cigars faithfully uphold the legacy of their predecessors, boasting rich profiles, full-bodied experiences, and an unmistakable smoking pleasure found nowhere else.
